About Us

Atglen Recycling has been in business since 2012. We are set up to handle all sizes of scrap loads, as we have a

70 foot electronic truck scale with a digital weight display screen and a 5 foot electronic scale for weighing smaller loads. Our yard is large, so that you can easily weigh in, unload, and get paid quickly and safely.

We can help unload, weigh, and guide you so that you can get the most cash for your scrap metal. We will answer your questions about the different types of metal and the services we provide. We have available a 70 foot truck scale and a smaller scale. Both scales have a large digital display for quick and easy recording.

We recycle all different types of metal - iron, copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, insulated wire, electric motors, and vehicle batteries - keeping as many materials out of the landfills as we can.

About the Owner

Atglen Recycling is the result of a lifetime of experience in the metal recycling industry. John Speers, owner, grew up in the metal recycling business. His family was in the metal recycling business in Chester and Lancaster counties for more than 20 years, and he spent most of his teen years working alongside his parents. He learned everything from the ground up, becoming familiar with metal as well as trucking and even equipment repairs.

When his parents sold their businesses, John decided to work  as a mechanic. A short time later, he moved to Missouri where he worked on a cattle ranch. John missed the metal recycling industry, however, so he began to search for a suitable location to start a business.

In 2012, he found a property on Zion Hill Rd in Atglen and liked the easy access to Route 41. Shortly after, with the support of his family, he opened Atglen Recycling, and John’s dream became a reality.

John is an outdoorsman at heart. He enjoys hiking, fishing and hunting. You may even see him on his Harley riding around town enjoying the scenic countryside! John fondly recalls his experience at the cattle ranch in Missouri and one day would like to own a ranch in this area.
